An open air festival on Woodhouse Moor was another memorable event. This was filmed in Cine film Super 8 - quality is crap, but it gives me a giggle (Charlie has the master video - even though he reckons he hasn't - but I found it at his house the other week - June 2005).
This was on the 26th July 1975.
The Gygfafa-van was there by the time I arrived - I had been to collect my girlfriend (Hi well-endowed Jane - remember this?). There were quite a few other bands assembled there - Quiver was one. A nice friendly atmosphere. We wandered about and watched the other bands. Jeremy was there - acting the idiot. The weather was not too bad, but not a typical summers day. The 'field' was quite filled with a sort of audience. Well, after all, it was free. Quite a few bands played, then the time came for GYGAFO to perform. Up the gear went onto the trailer. At this time I was experimenting with pyrotechnics, so after the gear was set up, I poured quite an amount of powder into the crucible. The gig went down very well. Even the Police enjoyed it. The track 1984 started. I rushed round to the back of the trailer to arm the detonator. When the time came to detonate the flash powder, I might have well not bothered. It looked like someone blowing cigarette smoke across the 'stage'. Oh well, back to the drawing board. As the gear was being packed, Graham gave us one of his magnificent Hughie Green impersonations. Very, very good.
Time to go. I was quite dark now, so off to the New Inn. We all met there and 'discussed' the event. Everyone had enjoyed themselves, and had a good laugh. As this was a Saturday (no work tomorrow) I extended my stay at the pub. We all departed at 'throwing out' time, and I led Jane to my car. No breathalisers at this time thankfully. I dropped her of near hear house at about 03:00hrs - to be faced with a very disgruntled Father!
