!!! We hate working for the G Y G A F O !!!

Fforde Grene - 24th December 1977

At this gig, GYGFAFAFAFO decided to let us humble road crew perform during the interval - as a Christmas present for the loyal fans.

We (the road crew) knew about this well before the gig, so practice sessions were required. Firstly, we had to decide who was playing what, then, what the 'set' was going be. I can only remember one of the three songs we played - I think that all of them were penned by Pete.

I remember 'secretly borrowing' PK's Rickenbaker bass, so that Phil could practice. At one practice session PK stormed in, turned the air blue and stormed off with his bass guitar. If that wasn't very childish then enlighten me. All three of us were standing there - mouths agape. This 'minor problem' was obviously resolved. JDL has a hand in this by offering the loan of his 'SG' bass guitar. So, YAH BOO, PK, didn't need your bass anyway. Anyway, to more practicing. Pete had his own axe, and I was quite happy hitting biscuit tins or whatever was near by.

-- Gig time had arrived --

Half way through GYGAFO's set, Eddie announced that there would now be a short interlude.

An unknown ' BAND ' would be performing a few songs to entertain you. He emphasized that if the audience did not like the band, then they should NOT throw slops over them - which would be available at the bar, also not to BOO them. That was a very bad move for Mr Stringbag!! We still owe you for that !!

Venturing onto the stage....

We had decided to call the band "Nasty Mix and the Feedbacks" for a cynical reason. If only I had a video camera at that time - it was hilarious. We did three numbers, and, as persuaded by Eddie (bar steward), we had numerous pints thrown over us - Pete (Egg 'n Ham) got quite upset that his axe was getting wet, but it was all in very good taste. I think Terry (the landlord) intervened to stop this soaking.

Nasty Mix comprised of Mal on drums, Phil on bass and Pete on lead and vocals. I can only remember one of the songs - 'We hate working for the GYGAFO'. Can anyone else remember the other two?

The three song set went down extremely well. The audience knew who we were, and as it was Christmas Eve, gave Nasty Mix a rapturous applause / encore. Charlie was thoroughly enjoying himself operating my lighting console.

Gygfafa continued the second part of the set. Needless to say that it went down a storm.

As the road crew were packing up the gear, I cannot remember how many people came up to us and complemented us on the gig.

That was brilliant.
